Armistice Day

In preparation for Armistice Day, the school held assemblies for each year group to reflect on the First World War and the reasons behind Remembrance Day. We were privileged to welcome three veterans over the course of the week, Major Fred Greenhow MBE, Mr Robin Ellwood and the Chairman of the Royal British Legion, Mr Ron Fairhurst. They discussed their experiences, why we have Remembrance Day and also its importance.
In addition to the assemblies, staff and pupils observed a 2-minute silence on Monday 11th November. School Council pupils gathered around the remembrance tree to observe the silence and plant memorial crosses.
This year, Remembrance Day and the assemblies, linked closely with Parliament Weeks’ ‘It Starts with You’ campaign to help pupils understand their part in society. ‘It Starts with You’ reminds us that soldiers gave their lives defending our future and that we must never forget their sacrifice.
Longfield is proud to remember! We give thanks to the service men, women and animals that gave their lives.
