- Welcome to Engineering
Our aims in the Engineering department at Longfield are to create an ethos where engineering is seen as worthwhile and relevant to pupils from all walks of life and above all, is truly inclusive. Gender equality and diversity is one of the department’s strategic priorities. Working alongside female engineers from Cummins, we are working to change the perceptions of engineering and ultimately career choices.
Opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of engineering in the classroom are apparent but furthermore, we encourage students to take part in extracurricular activities. We aim to inspire and engage the next generation of engineers about the variety and opportunities modern engineering can give them and give them the opportunity to meet and work with people already working as an engineer. One of our most successful activities is the Greenpower F24 competition; winning the kit car class in 2019.
Learning Sequence Overview
- Sequence of Learning KS4
KS4 Intervention Programme
After each module students will take an end of module test. The test will use exam style questions to assess students’ knowledge of the area. The class teacher will use this date to tailor intervention sessions for pupils. Intervention sessions will be ran at lunch times.

How can parents/carers help?
Students will be set regular homework and have regular assessments throughout the year (see subject learning sequence). Checking students are revising and completing homework’s set would help greatly.
